🌿 Our Skin: The Body's Largest Organ and Its Absorption Power
Our skin isn't just a protective barrier; it's the body's largest organ, absorbing a multitude of substances we apply daily. This absorption means that the lotions, creams, and fragrances we use can enter our bloodstream, potentially affecting our health.
Many conventional skincare products contain chemicals and synthetic fragrances that act as endocrine disruptors. These substances can interfere with our hormonal balance, leading to issues such as reproductive problems, developmental disorders, and even certain cancers. For instance, phthalates and parabens, commonly found in personal care products, have been linked to hormonal imbalances and other health concerns.
This realization was a pivotal moment in my skincare journey. I became determined to find alternatives that were not only effective but also safe and nourishing. I believed that what we apply to our skin should be as natural and wholesome as what we consume.
We live in a fast-paced world, our bodies are constantly exposed to an overwhelming amount of chemicals from the products we use to clean our homes, to the detergents we wash our clothes in, to what we breathe in and put on our skin (our largest organ). All of this is processed by our liver, the less unnecessary stress we place on it, the better. This realization sparked my journey into natural skincare, where I began exploring simple, nourishing ingredients like tallow, essential oils, and cold-process soaps. Through this blog, I’ll share my experiences, experiments, and lessons learned as I work to create skincare that's nourishing, and naturally restorative.
I have to say while this blog is rooted in natural skincare, I’ve got a big ol’ soft spot for all things wellness. So don’t be surprised if I wander into chats about minerals, hidden toxins, and fascinating health facts I stumble across along the way.
Think of it as skincare for the inside too. 🧠💚
I’m not a doctor—just a curious soul always learning, exploring, and sharing what lights me up. So grab your tea (or magnesium water 😉), and let’s dive deep into the good, the questionable, and the “wait, WHAT?!” moments in wellness.
Always learning. Always reaching. And always sharing with love. 🌿✨~ Sonia
